Lester kept the Red Sox in the hunt for the lead

Starter Jon Lester pitched six innings and was supported by two homers to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 victory over Kansas City.

The Red Sox regained their form after losing last night, but they remain subleaders in the Eastern Division of the American League leaders for New York Yankees, who also lost the night before, this time beat the Twins 3-0 Minnesota. The Yankees have a half-game lead.

Lester (13-6) pitched six innings, allowed three hits, one run, walked four and struck out three grounds for the win.

Darnell McDonald (5) and Carl Crawford (8) homered to support the attack.

The loser was starter Danny Duffy (3-8) in six innings, allowed five hits, a homer, two runs, walked two and struck out three.
