Carlos Beltran would be cool with deal to Red Sox

"Less than three weeks remain until the trading deadline, and right field is right up there with starting pitching as a spot where the Red Sox likely will seek an upgrade.

Two options, Carlos Beltran of the Mets and Hunter Pence of the Astros, are here.

The veteran Beltran has a no-trade clause but that would not be an issue if the Red Sox wanted to deal.

"They're in first place. It's a no-brainer," said Beltran, 34. "Boston is a great team, they have a great team. Like I say, man, right now the Mets know that I have made it clear to them, I'm willing to listen if they want to trade me. All I want to be is on a team that has a chance to go to the playoffs. I know there are a lot of teams out there having a good season.

"At the end of the day, it will not depend on Carlos Beltran; it will depend on the New York Mets for what direction they're going to take."

Pence, who at 28 represents much more of a long-term commitment and thus would require more of a blockbuster-type transaction, sounded far more unaware of the situation."
